What is aeration:

Water spilling into sump pit creates air bubbles. Pump turns on and sucks in air bubbles causing pump to air lock. No water is being pumped.

Aeration Guard:

By positioning the aeration guard correctly you will minimize pump air locking. The center line (longer slit) on guard should be facing away from incoming flow of water.
